Hello, my name is Larry Chipman, and I’m the founder and owner of Starwood Construction. Let me share with you, my story, and how it applies to your home.
I designed my first house in my junior/senior year of high school, and my passion for designing, creating, and building perfection has been the cornerstone of my work.
After graduating from high school, my first job was in the machine shop & metal working dept. at Zenith Transformer Co. After 3 years, I was leading a three-man team, designing and building specialized tooling to improve the accuracy & productivity of the manufacturing/assembly departments. I was there for 5+ years.
The next 5 years were spent in the aerospace industry. Working with seasoned craftsmen to build scale models of the space shuttle, The B1 assault aircraft, and several designs to capture and utilize solar energy.
I started Chipman Brother’s Construction, with my older brother, in Breckinridge, Colorado, With six employees, 11 homes to build, and a winter with lots of snow, it was a busy 1-1/2 year.
I got my California contracting license in 1982 and began designing & building custom homes. Have built 31 so far. Some clients were:
- Dan & Diane Muscio — District Attorney for the City of Santa Maria,
- Gordon & Geneva Wright — Custom home, Santa Maria Golf Course.
- Mac & Ann McPeek — Custom home on Santa Maria Golf Course.
- Craig & Serena Bergman — Complete house remodel overlooking Pismo Beach and the Pismo Beach Pier.
- Brett & Karen Zimmer — Three-family, Custom home, overlooking Lake Nacimiento and the surrounding forest.

- PG&E Office and warehouse addition –Templeton, CA
- Cal Poly University, — Install Hardy Plank Siding & Build Large Timber
Shade Structures at the Largest Student Housing project in CA history.
- Camp San Luis Obispo, ARMY Base — Warehouse remodels and
- New exterior Steel siding on two 100’ warehouse buildings.
